God's People Illuminate — Darkness Flees • 2 min read

Do you ever wonder if you believe in lies, as if they were truths?

I for some reason believed that almost all the thoughts that popped up in my head were truth and an accurate depiction of reality. I mean… I think I'm pretty sensible, and I know my intention is normally kind-hearted.

Growing up I believed I wasn't enough. Somehow everyone else was superior and I ended up on the inferior train. That belief affected every single decision I made and limited me from being able to love and be loved.

God later showed me through the love of his people that I am not inferior and that every person is created equal. He has no favorites. He showed me that I'm his son and that he has good plans for me every single day. In community is where I was able to bring my true self, fearing I'd be rejected, but instead I was met with grace and truth that led to freedom I'd never known: belonging.

Not all thoughts that pop up in my head are true. They are to be examined.

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

— 2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

— Philippians 4:8 NLT

There's a battle happening in our minds. In the dark, in isolation, we crumble. Yet, when we bring that which is in the dark into the light, darkness hides.

Allow God-given community to shine a light on the dark places in your life, because you will be met with grace and truth that brings freedom.
